Threats to Paradise

A list of storms that have threatened the West End of Galveston Island along with photos documenting beach erosion and beach build-up. The difficulty we live with is that beach erosion is a rapid, storm-wave-driven process measured in feet lost per hour whereas beach build-up is normally a slow, wind-driven process measured in feet added per year. Occasionally, as with Ivan, we get lucky and a storm brings in sand instead of taking it away but that's very unusual.
