The Manning Times, 15 Sep 1897 - The trial of Ed Purvis, a tramp, the murderer of Jimmie Blackwell came off at Lillington Court House, Harnett County, N.C., and the defendant put in no defense. The jury found him guilty of murder and he was sentenced to be hanged Oct. 13th.
